John La Rose
John was an icon of Black British identity, setting up dozens of community, political and cultural organisations and campaigning as pictured here (in the centre in white) for justice for the victims of the New Cross Fire.
So it seemed obvious to name a street in his honour. But the backlash as Black Boy Lane became La Rose Lane was unexpected and horrifying.
